Mali Idjos (Kishegyes) is situated on the banks of the Krivaja River in the Telecka hills (Backa district), halfway between the cities of Subotica and Novi Sad. Some 5,800 people live in the village; mainly Hungarians, but Serbians and the Roma live here, as well. The Katai Tanya ("Tanya" -in Hungarian- or "salaš"-in Serbian- is the name for a typical rustic farm in the Vojvodina Province) is some 1.5 kilometers away from the village centre. The beautiful landscape and the unique atmosphere of the lowlands have always been attractive. In 1995, this area became the spot for an art camp, organized for thirty talented children. This way the idea was born and the deeds followed: in that same year, with the construction of the thatched terrace the building of the Tanya started. Soon the construction of the dining room, kitchen and other premises began. The construction of the "jurta", (a building showinga typical dwelling place of the ancient Hungarian tribes), the playgrounds, the `koplyafák`(burial totems of the Szekely Hungarians), the ecumenical cross, the bells and other buildings have gradually followed since 2001. The next year awaited the guests with a newly created animal farm, and the number of the offered programs also increased, while the premises were enlarged. The capacity of the Tanya is seventy beds. Our guest can choose from one of the fifteen rooms available (doubles, and dorms of four, six and eight beds). The two dining rooms can serve up to 180 people. There is also an amphitheatre, serving as a conference hall for 200 people. There are several well-equipped and safe playgrounds, as well as an animal farm. We provide a wide range of versatile fun and educational activities in nature. Visiting us, the children can enjoy various programs organized on spot, such as horse and donkey ridings, horse carriage rides, teamgames, quizzes, joke-games, walks in nature. Both our adult and children visitors can also choose from other optional activities, such as a swim in the lake at the Guesthouse, a visit to the Bakery Museum, where it is possible to make a traditional cake named "kürtoskalács", or a trip to the Gallery of Old Crafts. During the winter beside these programs, there is a possibilty of ice skating and tobogganing. Nowadays, our visitors can enjoy inthe various programs on several different locations: the Tanya (70 beds), the Katai Guesthouse (25 beds), the "Lakeside" (a scenery house exhibiting a typical Vojvodina quarter with 11 beds), the Gallery of Old Crafts, the Bakery Museum and the Keyhouse (14 apartment beds). Our main business activities consist of organizing schools in nature, day-trips, excursions and summer camps for children. We have also hosted numerous meetings, conferences, camps, courses and presentations, youth in action seminars; while during the hunting season we provide home for the hunters. Those who visit us get the chance to spend some memorable quality time and to discover the traditional, domestic tastes of the local cuisine and drinks. Our doors are open all year round for those who would like to explore the sights and sounds of Vojvodina. All organized/booked in advanced groups of adults and children, who are looking for leisure and recreation, are welcomed. In the followings, we would like to present the premises and programs of our complex.
